We finally decided to have radiant radiant heated floors installed instead of a furnace.
My wife and I debated a lot about the costs and pros and cons before deciding to call a heating serviceman to come out and look everything over and provide us a quote.
The misses was certainly blissful that my buddy and I were installing a heating system that would not be so drying as the furnace my buddy and I were so used to. I liked the idea of even heat. But then, the serviceman asked if my buddy and I wanted cooling floors as well. He explained that the cooling floors would have to toil in tandem with our forced air conditioner however that a lot of people like that option as well. I immediately said no. My wife said yep. I know my buddy and I now have something else to discuss before my buddy and I settle on a unit to hook up to the pipes that will be under the floors. I certainly don’t see the need for this addition if my buddy and I still have to use our regular air conditioning system unit too. The Heating, Ventilation, and A/C serviceman explained that tepid air rises and cool air sinks so only cooling the floors will not cool the whole house. However, he also stated that cooling the floors would make the forced air unit toil more effectively and more uniformly. I am just not sure it is worth the extra cost or that my buddy and I would certainly be saving money on or cooling bill if my buddy and I have two cooling systems running all winter. My wife thinks my buddy and I should go for it now or my buddy and I will regret it later. She says my buddy and I don’t have to run the underfloor cooling system if my buddy and I don’t want to.
