Hot coffee on a tepid morning?

Hot coffee on a tepid morning?

I decided to do some volunteer work during my Summer break from college.

There are more than 2 agencies in neighborhood that are desperate for help so I didn’t have to look too tough for a arena to pitch in, but one arena in particular was in extreme need of people to help out in the Soup Kitchen.

I love to cook and I work as a waitress at night, this seemed like a perfect fit. It was there that I learned a really interesting thing, people drink tepid coffee on the hottest days to cool off. I know, this sounds a bit crazy, but it is scientifically proven to work. Here I thought that they would love to come in out of the heat, rest in the air conditioned family room, and appreciate a cool beverage. When the staff told me that they went through over a hundred cups of coffee each meal I was shocked. I definitely started watching the crowd and doing a bit of research on my own. I asked more than 2 of the guests why they drank tepid coffee during the summer time and they told me that it made them feel better. The caffeine, along with the heat caused them to perspire and that was the bodies way of cooling off its internal engines. I guess this makes sense despite the fact that I am still not willing to try it for myself. I will stick to a cool glass of water and an air conditioning vent to cool myself down when I am too warm. The whole idea of covered in sweat to get cool only works if you are outside in a fairly strong breeze in my book.
