Before purchasing their home, my parents were very selective about the HVAC system already installed in the home.
They searched a lot of great homes, but if the HVAC system didn’t meet their standards, they wouldn’t even put an offer in on the home.
I don’t have a good understanding of furnaces and air conditioners, but I know my dad does. He briefly worked for an HVAC company, so I trusted his opinion on the matter. I expected my parents to purchase a house with a brand new HVAC system, but they actually did the opposite! You can imagine my shock when they told me that the house they wanted had an HVAC system that was over 12 years old! In my dad’s words, the HVAC system was operational, but it wasn’t efficient and it would burn out within 6 months. I was very confused about their decision to purchase this house, so I asked my parents to tell me why they’d picked this house out of all the other ones. They liked the idea of ripping out the old HVAC system and replacing it with a high efficiency HVAC system of their liking. They wanted to pick out the exact model and start fresh with their heat and air system instead of using one that was already installed. They were able to negotiate the price of the home due to the HVAC system and replace the HVAC system without going over their budget. Once they explained their reasoning, I completely understood why they picked the house that they did.
