I have always hated hardwood floors.
I grew up in a house with no carpeting whatsoever and my feet were always freezing cold.
My grandmother, on the other hand, had nice lush carpeting and I loved it. My feet were always so warm and comfortable when we stayed at Grandma’s house. That is why I swore I would only live in houses with carpeting when I grew up. That plan went well for decades. Then my husband and I decided to move in order to accommodate our growing family. We found a house we both loved. It was spacious, near good schools, near our jobs, and the price was right. The only thing I didn’t like was that it had hardwood floors. I was whispering to my husband but I guess the realtor heard us because she told us that this house has underfloor heating. That means that my feet would never be cold on cold days. I like the concept but I was not sure underfloor heating would be enough so I asked for a demonstration. The realtor got the underfloor heater turned on and I took off my shoes. At first I was not impressed. The floor felt the same to me. But as I waited I noticed that the floor warmed up and then the whole house started to warm up too. My feet had never felt so warm and comfortable. I am sold. We are going to buy the house. I never realized that a floor could actually be the source of heat instead of a source of cold.
