Did you ever hear the term “shotgun ceremony”.
- I still laugh when I suppose about the afternoons when a couple would end up in a “situation” and she vision of the dad standing there with a shotgun in her hand in case the groom tried to escape.
As ridiculous as it sounds, this did happen back in the afternoon. My ceremony was not that type of ceremony but it did happen entirely hastily. You see, I married my spouse just before she was set to deplot for a year to the war zone. My nice friend and I had been planning a ceremony for a year out, but when she got orders, my pal and I decided not to wait any longer, the only thing I had was a dress, and even that hadn’t been altered yet. My nice friend and I called around for a locale to hold the reception only to find that they were all booked. It was mid Summer so I at least wanted a locale with air conditioner. There were locales that rented out barns, tents, and picnic areas although I knew that they would be entirely uncomfortable for both the ceremony celebration and the guests. In desperation, I started calling everything from schools to churches trying to find somewhere that had an Heating and Air Conditioning system that worked. I finally found a fire hall one town over that not only had a room large enough to hold everyone but it was air conditioned. This was not my ideal setting for my reception but at that point my pal and I didn’t have time to be picky. My nice friend and I decorated it as best my pal and I could and the afternoon turned out perfect. The main thing was, I was now married to my best friend, even I had to say goodbye to him for the next year.
