This afternoon was hot, yet it wasn’t even summer. At first, I ignored the excess heat and removed my coat, thinking that I could be experiencing a reaction that made me feel excessively hot. However, when Daisy walked into my office complaining of too much heat, and a few minutes later, Carol was next, I knew it was time to act. Every passing minute seemed to get hotter, yet the AC worked normally, gauging by the sound. However, it was clear that instead of blowing cold air into the offices as would be the norm, it was blowing scorching air. I tried to contact a local HVAC serviceman who maintains the office AC, but his number was not going through. Frustrated at the turn of events, I called the main office for assistance. A sweet lady on the other end answered and tried to calm me down. Unfortunately, things were getting out of hand as one of our colleagues had collapsed due to the excess heat. The HVAC receptionist on the other end quickly attached a new HVAC technician to us, and within twenty minutes, the professionals were at the office premises. I directed him to the AC unit. It was smoking and almost blew in his face. It turns out that the unit had malfunctioned and behaved abnormally. There was no logical explanation for this because whenever an AC overheats, it should turn off automatically. This one did not, and instead, it continued to run despite lacking adequate airflow. The HVAC specialist let me know that the unit was not going to work again, and it was necessary to invest in an upgrade. Fortunately, the company had already thought about this and advised us to use the portable ACs in each office until they sorted it out permanently.
