I have worried for years about my kids and how they would make it in today’s economy.
Our oldest, my daughter, always seemed to know what she wanted in life.
She was really good when it came ot working with kids so it was no surprise when she became a teacher. Our son, on the other hand, just didn’t seem motivated by much. He only wanted to sit in his room and play video games or go online. If something wasn’t technology related he just wasn’t interested. He somehow made it through high school and then he was trying to find a job that would interest him and make him enough money to live comfortably on his own. My husband offered to take him to a big job fair downtown one morning and I hoped that something would spark his interest. College was the last thing on his mind so he was looking for something more hands on. I knew that the local trade school offered adult classes in fields like, electronics, plumbing, and even auto mechanics. They were gone for hours and when they finally returned our son was very excited. He had spent a couple of hours talking with the owners of a local HVAC companies. He learned that modern HVAC systems have a computerized operating system that can be diagnosed using laptops and they can even be read remotely as they can connect to the internet via WiFi. He now wants to become a HVAC repair technician and is looking into a trade school to get his certification. He will be able to have a career that he likes and get paid well to do it also.
