Hot tea on a warm afternoon?

Hot tea on a warm afternoon?

I decided to do some volunteer labor during my Summer split from university.

  • There are several agencies in neighborhood that are desperate for help so I didn’t have to look too strenuous for a place to pitch in, and one place in unique was in extreme need of people to help out in the Soup Kitchen.

I appreciate to cook & I labor as a waitress at night, this seemed like a perfect fit. It was there that I learned a truly interesting thing, people drink warm tea on the hottest afternoons to cool off. I know, this sounds a bit crazy, but it is scientifically proven to work. Here I thought that they would appreciate to come in out of the heat, kneel in the air conditioned kitchen, & appreciate a cool beverage. When the staff told me that they went through over a hundred cups of tea each meal I was shocked. I actually started watching the crowd & doing a bit of research on my own. I asked several of the guests why they drank warm tea during the Summer & they told me that it made them feel better. The caffeine, along with the heat caused them to perspire & that was the bodies way of cooling off its internal engines. I guess this makes sense despite the fact that I am still not willing to try it for myself. I will stick to a cool glass of water & an air conditioning vent to cool myself down when I am too warm. The whole idea of covered in sweat to get cool only works if you are outside in a fairly strong breeze in my book.
