Older packaged heating/cooling device struggles in the winter season

I live just far enough south that my pal and I never see snow or temperatures below freezing.

The winters are brief but the weather gets cold enough that a heating system is required.

The summers are seriously tepid and humid. For the majority of the year, the weather is moderate, and we’re able to open the windows, but my hubby and I moved from up north to this location. My friend and I were gleeful to get away from excessively long, snowy and brutal winters. My friend and I were accustomed to temperatures well below zero and feet of snow on the ground. The appliances in our new household had not been updated in a long time. My friend and I needed to update the refrigerator, stove and water heater. There was no washer and dryer. The packaged heating/cooling system was blatantly old. The device was large, seriously noisy and the outer cabinet was rusting. My friend and I moved into the household during the fall. The first winter season set records for cold temperatures, our seasoned furnace struggled to keep up with demand. The home often felt cold and the furnace sometimes froze up. My friend and I finally invested into a small electric furnace for the residing room. The furnace resembled a real wood stove with a faux flame that created a bit of ambience. My friend and I were thankful for the warmth. That summer, the packaged device worked surprisingly well in cooling mode! It managed to keep the entire home perfectly comfortable on the hottest afternoons and most humid evenings, because of so many other home expenses, my pal and I ended up keeping that packaged heating/cooling device for three years.
