What to Do When Choosing a Heat Pump

The other night I had friends over to watch the Super Bowl.

All of my friends and I are big fans of football and when the Super Bowl comes around every year we go all out.

We will dress in our favorite team’s jerseys and cheer really loud. We even make all sorts of foods from buffalo chicken wing dips to spinach artichoke dips. Food is a must at our Super Bowl party. I’m pretty sure if you named a type of food we would have it. At the end of the night most of the food will be gone. Unfortunately towards the end of the night I realized that my furnace and heat pump stopped working. I was fortunate enough to have this happen towards the end of the night so my guests wouldn’t have to experience uncomfortable room conditions. That night I called my HVAC provider to set up an appointment to have him check my heat pump the next day. I told him that I would like my air-source heat pump either repaired or replaced depending on the severity of the problem. The technician then told me that it was important to size the heat pump. He was able to go off of the old heat pump’s size. I asked him what it meant when he said about sizing a heat pump. He replied saying that heat pumps are measured in “tons”. He even factored in the size and energy efficiency of my house to receive an accurate form of measurement for my heat pump.
