I am not sure if you are aware of the situation that multiple farmers are facing this year.
The lack of migrant workers, thanks to the new events, is affecting their ability to harvest crops.
Normally there are at least a hundred workers in our neighborhood that travel along the farming route toiling as they go. This year, my family that owns a big farm, has had to rely on locals to help out when they can, then young people who may be looking for Summer jobs don’t last long due to the long hours plus hard labor either, and they would rather labor at the local fast food site than option corn for eight hours in the hot sun. I can’t say as I blame them much because that is exactly what I have been doing every day for the past week, then my dad insists that all the picking is done by hand so at the end of the day I am beat. All I want is a fantastic bath plus my air conditioning system. I don’t even watch TV. I come home, relax in the tub for an hour, eat dinner, plus then crank the AC. I kneel on my bed which is right under one of the air vents plus I am asleep in no time. I know that the migrant workers care about the jobs they have however I can’t imagine doing this type of labor everyday for months on end. Many of them don’t even have the luxury of sleeping in weather conditions controlled spaces at the farms where they work. At least dad has a bunkhouse for them where they can get some relief.
